Apical Surgery
This young lady presented with previously treated mandibular incisors which I retreated and recalled 1 year later. Unfortunately, there was no healing due to the presence of an apical cyst. A full-thickness flap was raised and a large radicular cyst removed. The apices of #’s 23 and 24 were resected ~ 4 mm each, retroprepped with ultrasonics and a White MTA retrofill placed. Due to the large size of the apical defect, Foundation by J. Morita- a modified collagen graft material- was placed and the flap was sutured. She healed well and was recalled 6 months later where we found densely mineralized bone in the former defect.
