Types Of Sedation Used for Endodontics Conroe TX
We use 2 types of sedation in addition to local anesthetic: Nitrous Oxide, sometimes referred to as laughing gas, and Triazolam- a short-acting Valium-type medication. Nitrous Oxide is a fast-acting gas that helps you relax and makes the appointment seem shorter. At the end of the visit, the patient is given 100% oxygen for 5 minutes which helps the sedative effect wear off. With Nitrous Oxide, you can safely drive home after your visit. For those patients who are claustrophobic or who have a high level of anxiety, Triazolam can be very helpful. This relatively short-acting sedative is taken an hour or two prior to the visit and the effect will last for 4-5 hours. Taking this medication helps one sleep through their visit without the anxiety they would otherwise have had. However, the patient should never drive on this medication and the patient must have someone else drive him to and from his visit.
