After A Root Canal Conroe TX
A root canal is a microsurgical procedure where infected nerve tissue is removed from inside your tooth; the inner space is disinfected and then sealed to prevent future reinfection. It is, however, only the first part of restoring your tooth. It is absolutely essential that your tooth be protected as soon as possible with a crown or similar restoration so that it will not fracture or break in the future. Please telephone your restorative dentist for an appointment. A complete report of treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist.
You can expect the following:
- A bruised sensation around the tooth when biting. In most patients this lasts from 3-14 days but can persist for several weeks (each person heals at a different rate)
- As with a bruise, it is most tender immediately afterwards, then is noticeable only when touched. As healing finishes, it feels completely normal.
Taking medications such as Ibuprofen (600-800 mg 3 times a day for 3 days) usually helps reduce inflammation and speeds healing. Tylenol deadens pain but does not reduce inflammation (the source of tenderness) well. Having said this, take what works best for you.
