One of the more revolutionary innovations in the field of endodontics has been the use of strong and highly flexible rotary instruments to ideally shape the root canals. This ideal shape left by these high tech instruments allows for a large volume of disinfectants to be circulated through the internal spaces of the tooth which results in cleaner canals and higher success rates. As nice as that is, our patients are glad because it greatly shortens the time needed to perform a root canal procedure. Years ago, a root canal procedure would take up to 3 hours- usually in 3 appointments; today, largely in part to these instruments, the procedure takes about 45 minutes to an hour on average- and with better results!
